Stan Bissell has a ShelterBox conveniently tucked away somewhere in his new home.  In the aftermath of a disaster this kit contains many of the essentials required to protect a family from the elements and allow them to begin to rebuild their lives.  Inside it's large durable storage container, which can be repurposed in a multitude of ways, the ShelterBox contains a family sized tent, solar lights, water storage and purification equipment, thermal blankets, cooking utensils and basic tools. Stan feels fortunate to have this potentially life-saving kit in his house.

Now, for the sake of clarification, Stan is not a Survivalist.  He doesn't subscribe to Prepper Monthly or have several large pails of dehydrated beef stew in his basement.  He has however become a spokesperson for the great work ShelterBox does in the field of disaster relief around the world.  And the ShelterBox in his possession is a sample model to allow people to visualize its contents, realize the significance of this program and contribute to this very worthy cause.

On Friday Jan 25th Stan, our International Programs Chair, held a Shine for ShelterBox fundraising event in his home.  At this event, as well as at the informative presentation he gave at our Jan 22nd weekly meeting, the ShelterBox and some of its impressive contents were on display.

The relationship ShelterBox has formed with Rotary International allows them to consult with Rotary members in the affected area and assemble kits best suited for the situation.  This includes providing  a tent intended for the weather conditions involved.  Since its inception in the year 2000 ShelterBox has assisted in providing shelter for over 1 million people.
