Recap: Ronald McDonald House Event

A BIG thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the Ronald McDonald House event a big success on Tuesday, August 18th.
 
Our group of intrepid voluteers converged on the Ronald McDonald House to prepare a hot meal for the 30+ families who were guests of this local charity.
 
Ronald McDonald House is the only facility in Edmonton and the surrounding area that provides temporary and affordable accommodation for families whose children are being treated in one of Edmonton’s medical facilities.
 
The event began with a tour of the facility by the Executive Chef, Matt Mang, which included a tour of of the rec room downstairs, workout facility, movie room, quilt room, one of the guest rooms and the "Magic Room" where all guests get to choose a gift on the day they get to leave.
 
Interesting to note that every guest gets to choose a hand-made quilt upon their arrival which they get to keep.  The idea is to provide them with something that feels like home in the hope that it helps get them and their family members through whatever medical issue they are experiencing.  Matt mentioned that often times this becomes an important keep sake that never leaves the guest's bed even after they go home.

After the tour, club members (and friends) prepared salads, Shepards Pie, buns as well as homemade pie.
 
The food was delicious and the guests of the house certainly appreciated it.
 
It was also an excellent opportunity for fellowship and to get to learn more about each other.
 
Certainly a worthwhile event and I look forward to doing these again in the future!
