Katie Peterson and Kristen Simpson from ACT Alberta joined us on Tuesday evening to discuss human trafficking.

ACT Alberta - Human Trafficking is an Alberta based organization that has been formed to increase knowledge and awareness of this issue: human rights knowledge and awareness, effective rights based responses along with building capacity of all stakeholders to create joint action and advocacy.

Their victim centered approach keeps the victim at the center of the process.

ACT Alberta focuses on the 4 Ps:

  • Prevention: awareness raising
  • Prosecution: support law enforcement and assist in laying charges
  • Protection: training on identifying and assisting
  • Partnership: information sharing, cooperation and network meetings

What can we do?

Know your neighbors and your community, report human trafficking, help raise funds, support and volunteer with local organizations and educate yourself with this FREE online resource about human trafficking - BC OCTIP - http://pssg.gov.ab/OCTIP/training.html
