Hockey Night on Whyte 2017

HNOW By the Numbers:
- 3 media outlets
- 2 Oiler Alumni
- 80 players
- 300 burgers served
- 1 awesome band: Secret Parcels
- 200 estimated community members who viewed or participated in off-rink activities including CommuniTEA tea, hair styling in the Armoury, music, and more!
Saturday, September 23 marked our club’s 7th Annual Hockey Night on Whyte event and it was a smashing success! It was the perfect weather for sweating it out in the Impark lot beside YESS Armoury for a little 4-on-4 hockey action. Eight teams battled for first place and the best cookie medals you’ve ever seen! Thanks to Sophie Waldin for baking the cookie medals again this year for all our podium finishers.
We were fortunate enough to be joined by Oilers alumni Geoff Smith and Marc Fistric who spoke to the crowd and did the official puck drop while Global and CTV captured the action. Lauren secured our fantastic live band, The Secret Parcels, to provide entertainment – thank you Alphonzo, Max, Nellis, Jonn, and Jon “Herman” for coming out! Paige and Mathew brought CommuniTEA, a mobile tea house that serves up iced tea to thirsty community members while creating the coolest hand-made buttons! At many times during the day, the number of community members watching and partaking in the off-rink events outnumbered the players on the rinks.
It was a record year for sponsorships and as always plenty of food from Save-on-Foods and vendors at Strathcona Farmers’ Market, just to mention a few (with over 300 hamburgers served!) Thank you to each sponsor for your support, and to our members and friends who approached them – it doesn’t get done without you! And many thanks to each and every member that took time to engage community members in conversations that we know make a difference.
