President Kelly opened the meeting with our Question of the Day. She had most all of us stumped with the exception of Sean and our wonderful guest, Gail Hall.Answers found at the bottom of this bulletin.

Who was the inspiration for the following songs:

- Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline'

- Billy Joel's 'Uptown Girl'?

On that note, Sean brought us Edmontonians back to 1980 with a piece of trivia about Tim Feehan of the band, Footloose. The song 'Leaving for Maui' was written by Feehan for Sean's aunt! Click the links for some history on Tim Feehan or to hear the song Leaving for Maui.

Thanks for sharing Sean!

The online training takes a few hours and several days' processing time is required so please don't delay too long.

Thanks again to all those who have already committed their time to support YESS in this fundraiser.

Answers to Question of the Week:

Neil Diamond revealed the inspiration for 'Sweet Caroline' was President John F Kennedy's daughter, Caroline Kennedy who was eleven years old at the time.

On December 21st, 2011 in an interview on the CBS Early Show, Diamond attributed the name Caroline to Caroline Kennedy. He said that a magazine cover photo of her as a young child on a horse with her parents in the background created an image in his mind, and that the rest of the song came together about five years after seeing the picture. Diamond sang the song to her at her 50th birthday celebration in 2007.

Billy Joel's 'Uptown Girl' was inspired by Elle McPherson, not Christie Brinkley who was in the video and later married Joel. Joel was on holidaying in the Caribbean when he met three models staying in the same hotel - Macpherson, Brinkley and a young and then unknown Whitney Houston.

Kelly found these interesting tidbits from the book, The Girl in the Song, by Michael Heatley and Frank Hopkinson.
