Member of Parliament for Edmonton Strathcona

Heather McPherson is the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Strathcona. She was first elected October 21, 2019 and is a member of Canada's NDP. This is her first elected position. She serves as the Deputy House Leader, Critic for International Development, and Deputy Critic for Foreign Affairs. 

Prior to her election to Parliament, Heather spent 25 years in the not-for-profit sector building strong communities locally, nationally, and internationally. Most recently, she was Executive Director of the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation, a coalition of over 45 Alberta-based voluntary sector organizations working to promote sustainable human development and local engagement in international development initiatives. Heather also served as a Canadian delegate to the United Nations and as a UN election observer. 

Heather has a Master of Education from the University of Alberta and has taught around the world. She lives in the Argyll neighbourhood of Edmonton with her husband, two children, and multiple pets.
