Our next Rotary Lunch Bunch meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, October 28th at noon at Sam & Louie’s Pizza in Elkhorn. Our speaker will be James Thompson with Elkhorn Computer Services. James will be speaking about computer programs in business management and issues people have been having with Windows 10.
The next Lunch Bunch meeting will be November 11th at Shevy’s Sports Grill. Our speaker will be Tricia Thomas with Companion Services. The Service Philosophy of Companion Services is striving to replace institutional thinking, language and structures; and deliver its services through natural supports, in natural settings.
Because the next Lunch Bunch is scheduled for November 25th which is Thanksgiving week and our Rotary Club will be ringing the Salvation Army bell, there will not be a meeting that week.
our club will be ringing the Salvation Army Red Kettle bell on November 23rd, 24th, and 25th at the Family Fare grocery store located at 204th & Pacific Street. A signup sheet will be provided beginning November 5th, we will be ringing from 10:00AM to 8:00PM each day
Rita reported we have $9,912.86 in the Club’s bank account.
Jim Tomanek reported that the Lunch Bunch will be meeting next Wednesday, October 28th at Sam & Louie’s Pizza in Elkhorn at noon. The guest speaker will be James Thompson with Elkhorn Computer Services, James will be talking about the newest and greatest in computers plus all the problems people have been having with Windows 10.
Our speaker was Jackie Almquist, Director of Development for Metropolitan Community College.
Jackie stated that Metro is committed to preparing the workforce for today and tomorrow, they have been working on achieving this goal for 40 years. They are the second largest higher learning institution in Nebraska serving over 40,000 students each year.
They have 9 locations in a 4 county area, on November 7th at 9:00 AM they will be hosting a grand opening at their newest facility on the 2nd floor of the old Boarders Book Store on 72nd & Dodge.
A $90 million dollar capital improvement project is under construction at the Fort Omaha campus on 32nd & Sorenson Drive. The additions will include space for an Academic Skills Center, a construction center and a center for advanced & emerging technology. The project is scheduled for completion in 2017.

Judy Cline of the Suburban Rotary Club will attend our November to give us brief information about the Omaha metro Rotary networking event. She will also give the date, time and location of the event.
Adjacent is a photo of Julie Mortensen fishing at the mouth of the Little Sioux River on the Missouri River (near Little Sioux IOWA) while Ron was playing hookey from Rotary. In this dynamic fishing party were David Mortensen (oldest son), Steve Jauron of Sioux City (Julie's retired game warden brother who knew where to find Walleyes) and Ron (who is a non fisher person). The only fish caught were two Gar which are essentially junk fish.
It was interesting to observe 4 boat crews from Nebraska Game and Parks Department of Fisheries. They were fishing with boats and nets and hooks for Pallid Sturgeon which will be kept alive at the Fish Hatcheries for purposes of improving the numbers of this endangered species.
