As of February 15^th Jim Tomanek will become the new Executive Director of the Christian Outreach Program – Elkhorn (COPE). Jim has been involved with COPE since it has become an organization 11 years ago, most recently he has served as President of the Board of Directors.

COPE is a 501(C3) nonprofit supported by 12 churches in the Valley, Waterloo, Elkhorn and Bennington area. The service area of COPE is the school districts of Bennington, Elkhorn and DC West. The mission of COPE is to provide resources and hope to families in our community that are temporarily struggling. 

The Board has recently completed and approved a 3 year strategic plan that will move COPE in a growth mode expanding services, hours of operation and possibly building size. The four areas of planning include communications, expanded services, operations (additional open hours) and funding.

We have other Rotary members in our club that are instrumental in volunteering at COPE. Jill Muegge currently serves on the Board of Directors. Jack Ott, Richard Krueger and Bob Reade volunteer weekly to deliver baked goods to COPE donated by Hy-Vee and Family Fare. Rex Moats provides legal assistance to COPE and the Board, many other Elkhorn Rotarians volunteer for COPE projects. Many volunteer opportunities are available at COPE, including assisting families find items at the COPE facility, picking up baked goods each week, delivering large items to family homes, back to school back pack program and the annual Christmas Party in December.

Currently COPE is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday 10:00AM to Noon. Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30PM to 7:30PM. Please contact Jim or the COPE office if you would like to volunteer.
