JULY 16 SPEAKER - DISTRICT GOVERNOR ROD BATES

Visiting and speaking to our club this Thursday will be our new District 5650 Governor Rod Bates.  In addition to being District Governor, Rod is Director Emeritus of University of Nebraska Television.  He retired on June 30, 2013.  Prior to that he was general manager of Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET) , Director of University Television and general manager, Station KUON - TV, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and secretary/treasurer of the NET Commision and the NET Foundations for Radio and Television.  (you might remember him for his passionate appeals during the fund raising campaigns).  Rod was inducted into the Nebraska Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2014.  He currently serves as Chair Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of American Public Television.  Rod has been a Teammates mentor since 2005.

NOTE ON FRIDAY NIGHT'S DIVE NIGHT-July 17th
Diane will collect information at tomorrow's meeting as to who will attend the Dive Night at Finicky Franks.  If someone who wasn't at the meeting would like to attend, call Diane at 402 681-0083.  Finicky Frank's is located at 9520 Calhoun Rd, which is just north of 30th Street and I-680.  Our meeting time at Finicky Franks will be 6PM.
SPEAKER OF THE DAY - JAY McARDLE
McARDLE GRADING COMPANY

Jay presented a slide show on their current project at
174th and Fort Street area, which is the grading of a
45 foot high dam for the Papio Missouri NRD site
currently named as 15A. Jay provided a site map
featuring many aspects of the new flood control lake
for water control and public recreation, including
hiking, bicycling, fishing, camping.  The lake will be
about 220 acres in size (for you ex-farmers, that
is slightly more than a third of a section, depending
on the height of the water of course.  Shown in the photo
is club member Jill Muegge and Jay McArdle, speaker.

The Lake will be on the West Papio Creek.

BUSINESS MEETING  The meeting opened following another delicious HyVee Catered breakfast.  Guest of the Speaker attending was Kevin McArdle.  Nineteen club members were in attendance, but alas, not including our brand new President,  Dr. Roger Breed who had other commitments.  Standing in for our President was the very experienced and able Jim Tomanek.  The invocation was given by our immediate past-president, Bob Worley.  Treasurer Rita reported $13,794.33 in the checking account, which reflects recently paid dues and funds collected for the golf tournament this last Monday.  Secretary Ron babbled about the Club Runner project currently under test by the club. Neil did his usually fine job of collecting fines from club members.

Very importantly, Diane Johnson reported of plans for our next DIVE NIGHT ON FRIDAY, JULY 17TH AT 6PM, to be held at Finicky Franks on Calhoun Road North of 30th and I-680.  See the separate story on the event.  She will want you to call or email your reservations to her to improve our chance to sit together at one table (and be charged a mandatory 20 percent tip for a group, rather than 14 percent as individuals - Just kidding).

This past Monday was a wonderful day for golf, the sky was blue the grass was green and the humidity matched the temperature, but you can’t keep a good Rotarian down. We had 44 Rotarians or friends of Rotarians ignore the heat and humidity to help raise over $5,000 for the three scholarship winners this year. I want to thank everyone who played in the outing, bought hole sponsorships and raffle tickets. Thanks also to those who provided door prizes and volunteered to help the day of the outing. Thank you Ron Mortensen for taking all the pictures of the outing so we will all have something to laugh at during my next slide show!!
Congratulations to our team winners, Neil Kirby owes one dollar for his team winning the second flight and to Judy Breed’s team for winning the championship flight, now we know who the good golfer is in the Breed household!! Thanks again to everyone who supported the golf outing.

WELCOME TO ARIANN BROWN, OD.

Our newest member is Ariann Brown, OD.  Arian works as an Optometrist at ViewPoint Vision located at 180th and Burke Street, near Village Pointe.  Arian has practiced since 2005 and previously worked for 9 years with an Ophthalmologist in the Bellevue area.  Now Ariann lives in the Elkhorn area, and she really enjoys servng her local community.  In her spare time, Ariann likes to spend time with her family and dabble (her words) with photography.  Although Ariann will mostly attend the Lunch Bunch meetings, we look forward to her sharing with us at our Dives and Holiday parties.
