Commissioner Mary Ann Borgeson was first elected to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners in 1994. She was re-elected to her 6th term in 2014.
In 1997, Mary Ann was the first woman elected to serve as chairwoman of the Douglas County Board and has served in this capacity numerous years. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for both Nebraska Association of County Officials(NACO) and this July was elected as 2nd Vice President to the National Association of Counties (NACo) with a progression to President in 2019. Borgeson is the first Nebraska female elected to this national position.
Borgeson has served as Chair of the NACo Health Services and Cyber Security Committees and Vice Chair of Large Urban County Caucus, Healthy Counties, Health Services Committee, and a Member of the International Economic Development, Arts and Culture, Membership, and Programs and Services Committees. Commissioner Borgeson is past president of Women of NACo.

2003-Hope Medical Outreach Champions Award
2004- Domestic Violence Coordinating Council Outstanding Leadership Award
2008- Recipient of Nebraska Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) for Outstanding Elected Official
2012- Recipient of National Alliance to End Homelessness Public Sector Award (1st Public Official to ever receive this award.)
2014- DCHA Mary Ann Borgeson Housing and Services Advocacy Award (1st time an award like this has been established in honor of a County Commissioner)

A graduate of Daniel J. Gross High School and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Commissioner Borgeson worked in the healthcare industry in addition to her county board service. Mary Ann and her husband Bob are the proud parents of four and grandparents of four with one on the way.
