NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE - Brian Smith
Neil introduced Brian Smith from the National Weather Service in Valley, Nebraska.  Brian talked about the following areas:
  • Weather Ready Nation:  The WRN is a publicity program to alert the public on the hazards of flooding, lightning, tornadoes and hurricanes.
  • National Weather Support services: Services include decision support services for major attendance events such as Big Red football home games and the College World Series games.
  • Weather Service Website:  The web provides a great deal of information on Weather Emergency Radio, different types of tornadoes, and much more.
  • www.weather.gov/oax/  is the specific web site and users can find a miriad of links within the web site for information including the Weather Ready Nation.
Of special interest to smart phone users who are looking for new APPS is the Red Cross Tornado warning App.  There is also a Red Cross Hurricane app, which is probably not much use around Nebraska except perhaps monitoring the hurricanes affecting friends and relatives living on the coastal areas.
