- Gail Stalder lead us with an invocation and the pledge of allegiance.
- Treasurer Rita reported a check book balance of $5,985.81
- Secretary Ron reported that President Elect Judy will participate in the District telephone conference in December.
- Special note from Secretary: I gathered all the cables and connectors (AKA rats nest) from the drawer, coiled them properly and made up so both ends of the cables are visible and held in place with a rubber band. ( Following use, speaker hosts are requested to recoil the cables and hold in place with a rubber band.)
- President Mike lead us in a discussion of a Christmas Party. Jim Tomanek volunteered to chair a party committee.
- Jim announced the Food Basket project and volunteers are needed on December 14, 15 and 16.
- Jim also announced the COPE toy project; members are invited to donate toys or cash for the December 9th event.
- Gail announced something about a Walleye and competition with his wife. He can reexplain if he desires.
- President Mike introduced our District Governor, Tom Cardwell, PhD. At the beginning, the Gov told us a cute joke about two guys digging holes in the ground, one guy would dig a hole and the other guy would scoop the dirt right back in the hole. When question why they were doing this, one guy explained there were part of a three man crew but the third guy that puts the tree in the hole was off sick. At the end of his address, Gov Tom said that there was going to be a Rotary tree planting event. He promised there would be THREE Rotarians working on the planting crews.
- District Governor's remarks: He explained why he likes Rotary because of the business like approach and it is a mechanism to bridge differences. He talked about the classroom and orphanage projects in the Country of Georgia, former member of USSR. He also mentioned the promotion of mentors in Georgia where the concept of mentoring outside of the extended family was not in the culture because of the issue of trust. He concluded his remarks promoting the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and the goal this year of planting trees on April 7th. Increasing the percentage of women and young people in Rotary was advocated. (a copy of the Governor's remarks has been requested and will be sent out by separate mailing (email).
- Jack Ott won the opportunity to draw a ball but the results were lost in the flurry of table and chair takedown.
- Gov Tom presented our President with a Rotary 2017-18 Theme banner and Our President presented Gov Tom with an Official Rotary Club of Western Douglas County mini banner. Photos shown below.
