JANUARY 14 MEETING REPORT

CARL ANDERSEN - SPEAKER

Neil introduced our speaker of the day, Carl Anderson, Owner of the Scandinavian Shop and is the head of the Elkhorn local merchants association and president of the Elkhorn business improvement board which was formed in 2014. Carl told us about the project underway to rebuild streets and sidewalks and add handicap accessibility in Downtown Elkhorn. The project includes repaving a part of North 206th Street, Elkhorn Drive and North Main Street in the Downtown Elkhorn area. The number of parking spots will increase from 100 to 130 with the street work.

Carl utilized his elaborated "Power Point" display to explain the involvement of TIF, BID, CIP and Grants to finance the project. The City of Omaha (remember those guys who annexed Elkhorn?) The overall plans will cost about $2 million. Other potential changes include new light fixtures, brick retaining walls and vegetation around Olde Towne. The project is the first use of Omaha tax increment financing in Elkhorn

A new apartment complex south of the downtown and Main Street area are included in the tax increment financing area. The business owners will share in the tax incentives from the apartment development.

The project has a two year time frame.

OTHER MEETING ACTIVITY

President Roger called the meeting to order, asking Duane to give us the invocation and pledge of allegiance. Treasurer Rita reported $8,026.55 as checkbook balance. Secretary Ron reported that the bill of International will be arriving for Semi Annual Dues (the bill arrived by email Thursday for $1,456.00).

Diane brought up the subject of a "Progressive Dinner" as a substitute for Dive Night. Action on this dinner will be be discussed at next meeting.

Jim reported on the Lunch Bunch at Shevy's where the speakers subject was the top 10 consumer scams.

Guests including Visiting Rotarian Larry Johansen, Ryan Hinz (son of Cal). There were 23 members present at the meeting, including new member David (DJ) Bradley.
