TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT IN EARLY 1900s DISCUSSED
At our regular club meeting on March 1, Last week WSC history professor, Dr. Eric Colvard (a Fulbright Scholar) discussed the temperance movement in the early 1900’s in the US and in India.
Eric told us about the British occupation in India and their introduction of pale ale and the use of opium, especially by the lower class. Alcohol and domestic violence were related. The leaders of the temperance movement in India were upper class citizens who were also very involved in the India nationalism movement. Barb Engebretson introduced Eric.
