Sandy Brown, a leading member of the Wayne Green Team was our program speaker on April 24. She reminded us that Lois Shelton started the local organization 10 years ago to raise the awareness of environmental issues. Since then, the Wayne Green Team has helped recycle 79 TONS of glass, 100,000 lbs of electronics, 526 lbs. of small batteries, 1000 lbs. of Christmas lights plus support the boy scouts in their efforts to gather aluminum cans and paper. She informed the group they often have to pay to have the recycle items taken away and be recycled. Pac N Save USA & Quality Foods gives 5 cents per bag to customers who bring reusable bags to the store to use instead of using a paper or plastic bags from the store. At Pac N Save USA the customer can choose to donate their bag credit to a different local non-profit organization. The Wayne Green Team has been visiting all he local elementary classrooms to tell the students about the importance of recycling.
