Club member Gary Weddel introduced Dr. Leah Kieno, who is with the Wayne State College Multicultural Center at our meeting on January 24. She and club member Mary Carstens assist the WSC international students. Ellie Thuy Tran, who is a student from Viet Nam, also contributed to the program.

Leah told us 19 countries have representatives at WSC. There are 30 active students. There are additional options for the students to stay in the U.S. after graduation. There is hope the international program will continue to grow. People like Leah and Mary help the students get acculturated to the U.S., become familiar with the higher education system and the laws, and to have realistic expectations.

Below are some of the services to help the students including assisting with money which includes paying bills, learning the law, and helping with transportation.

Mary noted the What If? program has been successful. Our club has been active in a few of their projects.

All were encouraged to attend the International Dinner at WSC. Typically over 200 people attend. Entertainment is provided. Tickets will be $10 each. On March 16th there will be an International Student Transfer Day.
