UNL EXTENSION SPEAKER

Kaki Ley introduced Dr. Chuck Hibberd, Selena Finn, and Amy Topp at our meeting this morning (Aug. 3). Dr. Hibberd is part of the "Blanket Nebraska Tour" promoted by the new UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green. 24 Nebraska communities will be visited this week. UNL is considered "the best value in the Big 10." With a goal to increase enrollment, they hope to keep graduates in Nebraska. They also hope to get more first generation students.

Dr. Hibberd, who is the Dean of the University of Nebraska Extension Program, said UNL hopes to increase their student success by graduating students more quickly, with less debt. 67% of the students get a degree 6 years later, while 45% get a degree in 4 years. They also hope to expand the research at the University. Last year they received 278 million in federal grants.

Selena Finn is interning at the Wayne County Extension office. Amy Topp, our outstanding Extension Director, has kept our 4-H exhibits a huge part of the Wayne County Fair. We feel fortunate to have her guidance for our 4-H youth over the years!
