Fifth year elementary principal Russ Plager was the speaker at our club meeting on July 10.  He along with Supt. Mark Lenihan have for years discussed an after school program for the younger students to provide extra support for schoolwork and to give them what they don't get during the regular school classroom time.  To put this together they consulted with the Waverly and Boone Central school systems.  They called on Judy P. (food), Bryce M. (CAT for physical activites), arts and science teachers, Mrs. Fehringer (Rainbow World) and Christian Legler at Wayne State College to share their thoughts.  This Kids Club will follow the school calendar and begin immediately after school when they (K-6) will go to gym or outside for physical activity, then some snacks, followed by school work.  There will be K-2nd and 3rd to 6th programs.  They will be able to attend 3, 4, or 5 days a week.  There is a tuition charge and the amount will be determined by ability to pay.  To begin it will be limited to 50 students.  Mark Evetovich will be the director and Carrie Wendte the lead teacher making sure the ones working with the children have all the resources needed.  There will be numerous Wayne State College education majors involved for a good number of one on one help.  The plan is to start small with 50 students to get a good foundation and grow that number in the future.  There will be 4 different courses of study:  science, art, technology, and math and only one taught per semester.  This sounds like a program that will really help a lot of students.
