Rotary member, George Burcum, led a discussion on U.S. health care at our meeting on Sept. 13.  George noted there are 30 nations ahead of the U.S.in life expectancy.  The U.S. spends more on health care but with worse results.  A news article noted we go to the doctor less than people in other countries and get hospitalized less, but we are paying more for the things we do not use.  It said many die from complications or conditions that could have been avoided with timely and effective care.

Other topics discussed included the money spent for research, incentives to change our life styles, end of life expenses, prevention, water quality, the effects of violence, and nutrition.
