Our January 23rd meeting was held in the basement of the the 1st Presbyterian Church in the Food Pantry/Coat Closet room.  Mrs. Jodie Pulfer was our host speaker.  She said the approximately 10 volunteers hand out about 1000 boxes per year of non-perishable food items along with gift certificates for perishables to Quality Foods and Pac N Save to Wayne County residents.  The families are limited to 3 times a year and most use it 1 or 2.  If there is a need for more than that "navigators" will direct them for other sources.  The need increases each year. In 2013 they began a "backpack" program whereby sacks of breakfast food, snacks, fruit, etc., are given to the needy for weekend use for those who usually attend the free breakfast program at the school.  That is about 100 weekly and putting together those bags are helped by WHS and WSC students.  Food items are always in need along with money to purchase the items they run short of and for the gift certificates.  A great community project.  We enjoyed the visit!
