Presentation Overview: The presentation will provide background on Peru State College, its mission, and its key programs. Included will be a quick visual tour of the historic campus. How the college has continued to provide a personal and engaging education in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic will be shared. And finally, the fascinating story of one of our graduates at the front lines of fighting the pandemic, and the role Rotary played in his development, will be told.
Dr. Daniel Hanson is the 33rd President of historic Peru State College. Since his arrival at Peru State, he has built a strategic vision focused on improving the student experience through essential engagement.
 
Prior to his arrival at Peru State College, Dr. Hanson served at Waldorf College in Forest City. His career included service as Director of Academic Computing, Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems, and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Hanson holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa; a master’s degree in education and computer science from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn.; and a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Dr. Hanson is married to his wife of 44 years, Elaine. They have two daughters: Heather, who is a physical therapist in Des Moines, and Abby, who is an occupational therapist in Nebraska City.
 
Elaine Hanson is First Lady of Peru State College. In this role, she has had the wonderful opportunity to live out her vision and mission in life, which is living a life dedicated to service. She has been a life-long advocate, champion, and participant of service and volunteerism in Iowa and now Nebraska. Elaine values working beside her husband to promote and carry out the mission of PSC.
 
Elaine Hanson has started many volunteer programs and initiatives in her 35+ career as a volunteer leader and manager using her passion and skills for service to start programs in nursing homes, Hospices, college campuses, and churches. A frequent contributor to the publication The Volunteer Management Report she also is a frequent presenter at national and state volunteerism conferences.
 
Most proudly Elaine led Forest City, IA Rotary Club’s Rotary International Centennial activities, started Rotaract at Peru State College garnering the support of five Rotary Clubs in southeast Nebraska and served as an Assistant District Governor in both Iowa and Nebraska.  
 
Elaine is very proud of her family which includes four delightful Grandchildren.  She is, of course, very proud of her Peru State College family and is honored to be a “Peru State Mom” to many!
