The Glenwood Rotary Club heard from John Stacey of the Oak Township Volunteer Fire Department regarding their recent ISO rating and how that determines insurance costs for area residents.
John Stacey of the Oak Township Volunteer Fire Department presented to the Glenwood Rotary Club on April 8th, 2021. The Oak Township VFD recently received an Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating of "6", a substantial jump from their previous rating of "10". The Fire Department has spent several years making countless improvements and training their volunteers to earn this increased rating. ISO ratings directly affect homeowners insurance rates, and the Fire Department was just 1.5 points from the next rating up, an impressive "5".
Following his presentation on ISO ratings, John spent some time explaining how he and several other fire departments worked together nearly seamlessly to battle the fire on the Glenwood town square just the week before. If it weren't for the area fire departments joint trainings, and the recently purchased aerial fire truck of the Glenwood VFD, the entire South-Side of the Glenwood Town Square could have easily been burnt to the ground.
