A Peace Corps volunteer, Katie Evans, from Glenwood, Iowa assigned to Dan Sara, Niger developed this project together with the Rotary Club of Glenwood from her hometown. Dan Sara, a village of approximately 2,000 inhabitants, had only two sources of water and the animals that drove the pumping mechanism were contaminating both sources. The project supplied a water pump, electric generator to power it, water storage tank on a tower, piping, and a few sets of spigots to provide clean water to the village. The Glenwood Rotary Club endorsed the project, sponsored it internationally and then found more partners plus a local sponsor. The Rotary Club of Niamey-Gaweye in Niamey, Niger sponsored the $45,000+ project locally. Partners Rotary District 5650-Iowa/Nebraska, Rotary District 6060-eastern Missouri, Rotary District 9100-Niger, The Rotary Foundation, and the First Christian Church of Glenwood, Iowa provided additional funding for the two sponsoring clubs.
