ADOPT A VILLAGE-BUGIRI PROJECT
Adopt a Village - Bugiri Project is a US $33,201 (UG Shs.52, 855,992) implemented at Bugiri – (Bukasa LC1 and Kiwuulwe LC1) in Katabi (Ssabaddu) Sub-County, off Entebbe Road in Busiro County of Wakiso District.
“Adopt a Village” concept is a multi – pronged approach towards lifting a community out of poverty by addressing the impediments to the citizens’ development. The project is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kiwatule in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Petaluma (D5130), Danville/ Sycamore Valley (D5160) of California, USA and The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International
The project has benefited over 3,500 people including (in excess of 2,000 children) in Bugiri (Bukasa & Kiwuulwe) villages and has contributed towards the community’s efforts to achieve the Millenium Development Goals . It focused on health, sanitation and education.
Through this project, the Rotary Club of Kiwatule with its partner have spent in excess of USD. 20,000 to provide;
- Text books for Teachers and pupils for all subjects and all classes from P.1 to P.7 (Including Teachers’ Guides),Chalk , Bookshelves,Office desks and Chairs at Bugiri Public Primary School. (handed over on the 27/06/2008).
- A 10,000 litre water tank with all related plumbing works.
- Two (2) Public Pit latrines one in each village (Bukasa and Kiwuulwe)
- Three (3) Boreholes to provide community with clean, safe water.
- Over 1,300 long lasting insectside treated mosquito nets mainly for the children and expectant mothers
