Dr. Steven Moser/USM Provost/VP Academic affairs

Steven R. Moser is the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at The University of Southern Mississippi. As the chief academic officer, Dr. Moser is responsible for leading the formulation and implementation of university-wide academic affairs policies relating to faculty hiring, retention, tenure, promotion and development. Since his appointment, he has overseen the restructuring of admission and retention programming at the university, and in 2016 began a campus-wide dialogue to restructure academic units under the Plan for Academic Reorganization: Vision 2020. Other initiatives include the expansion of data analytics in scheduling and fiscal management. 

Provost Moser joined the faculty at USM as an assistant professor of music in 1990. Since that time, he has risen through academic a Professor of Music in 2002.  He was appointed associate dean of the College of Arts and Letters in 2005, dean in 2012, and provost in 2015.

His primary area of creative scholarship and teaching is in music, adult music learning, and instrumental conducting. As a conductor, his ensembles were highly regarded in the Southeastern United States and in Europe, where they regularly performed.  He has guest conducted and adjudicated extensively across the United States.
