This Week's Speaker
Aug 18, 2021
Son of a Saint
Son of a Saint

As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Son of a Saint, Bivian "Sonny" Lee III has dedicated his life to enhancing the lives of fatherless boys. Prior to founding the organization, Sonny served as chief aide to Tom Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans. He also previously served as the Director of Operations for the New Orleans Zephyrs AAA Baseball Team and Director of the New Orleans Jazz Institute.

Sonny graduated with honors from St. Augustine High School and later earned a degree in Marketing and Management from the University of New Orleans. He is currently pursuing his Executive Master of Nonprofit Administration (EMNA) at the University of Notre Dame. A TEDx speaker on community service, decision-making and the importance of education, Sonny's nonprofit work has been highlighted on CNN, Al Jazeera America, NPR along with local television stations and newspapers.

His work on behalf of his community and the Son of a Saint organization has garnered him numerous awards.

New Orleans Mandates Proof of Vaccination for Indoor Dining and Drinking

Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced Thursday, August 12th, New Orleans residents and visitors must show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or a recent negative test to go inside restaurants, bars and other indoor venues.  The decision is driven by the highly transmissible delta variant and the state's low vaccination rate.

This mandate will include Rotary Meetings attended at NOCHI starting on Wednesday, August 18th for all members, guest, speakers and visiting Rotarians.   Rotarians will be required to continue to wear a mask, frequent handwashing and social distancing while attending meetings.

The Rotary Club of New Orleans is taking all the necessary precautions to keep our members and guests safe, and manage the spread of the virus.  Members should have an added level of comfort knowing their fellow Rotarians are vaccinated if attending in-person meetings.

All members are encouraged to go to the app store on their phone and download the LA wallet app that will allow for easy access to COVID vaccination records and Driver’s license.

Only 10 days left - We need your support!
By purchasing $20 raffle tickets, you can help our New Orleans Rotary Club raise money for local charities. 100% of the proceeds go to local charitable causes! This year there are over 50 great prize packages with even more lagniappe prizes to be added. All Prizes are donated and include 16 Saints game packages and 24 LSU game packages, restaurant gift cards, stays at local hotels, jewelry, dinner theater tickets, gift baskets and more! You can even win a flight on a WWII era PT-17 Stearman aircraft!
SEE ATTACHED LINK FOR COMPLETE LIST.

As you know, Rotary is one of the world’s oldest service organizations and, with the proceeds of the Raffle, our New Orleans Club helps support a wide range of charitable projects every year. As you also know, Covid has created a real hardship for many not-for-profit organizations in our community…so it’s more important than ever that we spread the word about the Raffle and make it a huge success!

You can purchase tickets on-line by using Venmo, Zelle or a Credit Card and emailing me at kkoppy23@gmail.com

Or write a check payable to “Rotary Club of New Orleans" and mail to:

Karl Koppy
800 Valmont Street
New Orleans, LA 70115
Or purchase tickets at our Wednesday meeting!

As many of you know, we sell these tickets each year and have seen first-hand how 100% of the proceeds go directly to those in need in our community, including those dealing with mental illness, homeless families, abused women and children, and many more. For those of you that buy tickets each year, we extend a sincere thank you - your support is needed more than ever. For those that have never bought before, now is a great chance to be a part of a fun event and help others in the process.

Thanks for your support of these great causes!
