The Humane Society of Louisiana is a registered charity and strives to improve the welfare of all animals. The group operates the Enoch J. Donaldson Animal Sanctuary, located in Mt. Hermon, Louisiana and manages two other sanctuaries that are home to more than a dozen horses and an assortment of formerly abused, orphaned, or neglected pigs, goats, a donkey, and various cats and dogs. The group helps to enforce the animal cruelty laws and ordinances that protect animals and works closely with law enforcement agencies throughout the state. The group also transports more than 1000 animals to new homes each year. The group has been featured on CNN, The New York Times, and NPR Radio.
Rotary District 6840 is making a concerted effort to raise funds at the District level to send to the Devasted Rotary District 7020. We recommend that anyone wishing to contribute to Rotary District 7020's relief should send money to the District 6840 Foundation and mailed to PDG Neil Alford 384 Voters Rd. Suite 103 Slidell, LA 70461 (with a note that it is for Hurricane Dorian Relief)
The neutral ground is located on Poydras Street between Tchoupitoulas Street and South Peters Street. The Rotary signs make it easy to see where you need to go. Two or three Rotarians are scheduled each week, but you can get creative and have others help if you wish. If you cannot work during the scheduled week, try to switch off with someone else. During your week, the deal is to pick up trash or broken limbs you find on the neutral ground. You can bring your own garbage bag and gloves. The trash pick up takes less than 15 minutes but be careful on the busy street. After you are finished, just throw the garbage bag into one of the public trash containers on Poydras Street.
Week of 09/16/19 Bob Tarcza, Kenny Taylor
Week of 09/23/19 Matthew Theriot, Anthony Tocco
During the year, we will arrange to do more gardening work on the neutral ground and go to lunch afterward.
REMEMBER that in addition to keeping up this stretch of Poydras Street, this is a great way to get to know your fellow Rotarians. Also, if you cannot perform your assigned task think about getting a group of younger folks to handle it for you. They can be Interactors, high schoolers looking for community service hours or just folks looking for a way to get involved.

Brian Mora
Brian Mora is CPA with Pedelahore & Co., LLP, a CPA & Consulting Firm.
Born and raised in Metairie, after attended Jesuit High School, he graduated from the University of Georgia, and later moved to Atlanta for about 9 years before moving back home. He ran cross-country and track at Jesuit and UGA, and now jogs on occasion for pleasure and to avoid eating healthy.
Previously, Brian was the CFO of Aquasize, an Oil & Gas frac sand. His duties included oversight of all accounting, finance, reporting to bank and investors on a regular basis, and negotiating the ultimate sale of the company. In about a year and half time, Mr. Mora oversaw the negotiations of a $77 million credit facility, an equity raise, construction of an industrial plant, including over 4 miles of rail siding, the hiring of 40+ employees, layoffs of half of the employees (due to a drastic drop in oil prices), and ultimately the sale of the Company in April 2015.
In Atlanta, Brian worked for two accounting firms, most recently specializing in business valuations and corporate acquisitions. He worked on a hodge-podge of middle market companies ranging from start-ups companies to $1.0 billion transactions of public companies. He got to see a lot of various industries and racked up a couple hundred thousand frequent flier miles. Professionally, he prefers doing business in New Orleans because of the small town feel. It’s easier to make a difference with a small business – people are more approachable and they appreciate good advice, when it’s their own money on the line.
He is a Past-President of the CFA Society of Louisiana, past- treasurer of the Rotary Club of New Orleans, and is a member of the New Orleans Estate Planning Council.
Brian and his wife of 9 years, Lauren Giles Mora, also a New Orleans native, reside in Lakeshore with their 2 children and a third on the way.
