Rotarians greeted the French guests from our sister club in Orleans, France on Saturday night. John and Nancy Olinde along with Susan and Barry Simon are housing the guests this week. New Orleans Joan of Arc, portrayed by Rory David, and Gayle Dellinger were at the gate to welcome Capucine Delaloy, Jeanne d’Arc and recipient of the cultural scholarship from the Orléans Rotary Club.
Activities are planned for the week to introduce the visitors to New Orleans and to highlight the French culture that makes up our city. They will enjoy a tour of St Louis Cathedral after the Sunday mass honoring Joan of Arc then they will visit the Cabildo to view the Lafayette exhibit. After a stop at the new Nous Foundation Gallery and a few shopping stops, they will dine at Antoines. Plans for the week also include, World War 2 museum, lunch with the French Consul General, Storyville museum, Ursuline Convent and St Mary’s tour, Garden District tour, JAM Nola, and a trip upriver to the Houmas House Estate and Gardens.
The highlight of the week will be the Joan of Arc parade thru the French Quarter on Tuesday night. Check out the route and come out to cheer on the Rotary monks walking in the parade and take home the collectible hand made “throws”.
