Sippin’ for Scholarships began as a wine tasting and wine competition that raises money to fund college scholarships for New Orleans high school students and has migrated to add a Country Flair in 2026. It is an evening of celebration and fellowship that includes silent and live auctions, small bites and three local Bourbon Distilleries offering a taste of Bourbon and their story of how they got started in Louisiana. We welcome you to enjoy a great evening for a wonderful cause. The event will take place Central City Barbecue.

The Rotary Club of New Orleans was proud to induct Warren Bell as a new member at our most recent meeting. A New Orleans native, Warren’s broadcast career began while he was still a student at St. Augustine High School, where he graduated as a Presidential Scholar. He later earned his degree from Yale University before returning home to New Orleans, where he held television news roles with all of the city’s local stations.
Beyond broadcasting, Warren has served in significant leadership roles at all three of New Orleans’ HBCUs. His civic involvement includes serving as President of the Spirit of Charity Foundation and as a board member of the Louisiana Creole Research Association.
Warren is married to Becky Flot Bell and is the proud grandfather of five. We are excited to welcome Warren to Rotary and look forward to his leadership, service, and deep ties to our community enriching the club.

Ashraf Esmail is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and manages The Center for Racial Justice at Dillard University. His research has focused on cultural diversity, racial and social justice and violence. He is the senior editor of the Journal of Education and Social Justice and Chief Editor of the International Journal of Leadership, Education and Business Studies. He is the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Contemporary Islamic Studies. He is the co-editor for the Journal of Contemporary Issues in Higher Education. He has served on the Board for the National Association for Multicultural Education, National Association of Peace Education, World Association of Academic Doctors, Court Watch Nola among others. He served as President of the National Association for Peace Education in 2010-2011. He served as state chapter president for the National Association for Multicultural Education from 2004-2014.
Dr. Esmail has published several articles and books. Some of the books include Youth Violence in American Schools: How Can it Be Alleviated, “Oh, It’s like CSI..” Qualitative Study of Job Satisfaction Experiences of Forensic Scientists, Racial Disparity in Sentencing Outcomes: A Study of Sentencing Decisions Under Arizona’s Perspective Sentencing Structure, Internet Identity Theft: An Insight into Victimology and Law Enforcement Response, Alleviating Bullying: Conquering the Challenge of Violent Crimes, Professional Development in Community Corrections: A Case Study, A Critical Assessment of Technical Violations in Criminal Justice: A Probationer’s Perspective, Gun Violence in American Society: Crime, Justice, and Public Policy, On These Mean Streets… People are Dying: Police and Citizen Brutality in America, Old Problem, New Paradigms: The Tragedies of Human Trafficking and Exploitation, Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes? National Security: Evaluating the Equilibrium between Secrecy, Transparency, and Individual Freedoms, and Terrorism Inside America’s Borders.
Dr Esmail has worked and presented at conferences at the national, regional, and university levels since early in graduate school. He has presented at conferences including the National Association of Multicultural Education, National Association of Peace Education, The World Association of Academic Doctors, Race, Gender, Class Conference, Southern Sociological Society, Midwest Sociological Society, MidSouth Sociological Society and the American Sociological Association.
The Program Committee is seeking members who are interested in helping coordinate speakers for our upcoming meetings. This is a great opportunity to get involved, share ideas, and help shape the engaging programs our club is known for.
We’re also seeking input from all members on the types of speakers and topics you’d like to see in the months ahead. Your suggestions are valued and appreciated!
