BENZAIT - The AI Shift is Here
BENZAIT - The AI Shift is Here

Ralph Whalen is the Founder and CEO of BENZAIT, a healthcare IT consulting firm headquartered in New Orleans, LA, specializing in data intelligence, AI governance and digital transformation. With extensive experience at the intersection of healthcare delivery, informatics and operational strategy, Ralph is recognized as a leader in advancing responsible innovation across complex health systems.

Throughout his career, Ralph has worked closely with executive teams, clinicians and technologists to design and scale enterprise programs that drive measurable value. His work focuses on aligning AI and analytics initiatives with clinical, operational and financial goals ensuring that emerging technologies are implemented safely, ethically and sustainably. Ralph brings a systems-thinking approach to solving some of healthcare’s most pressing challenges, from siloed innovation to risk management and return on investment.

At BENZAIT, Ralph leads the development of AI governance frameworks aligned with national standards, such as the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI), and has overseen the successful implementation of operating models across multi-hospital integrated delivery networks. He is passionate about helping organizations navigate change with clarity, structure and purpose. His leadership style emphasizes collaboration, transparency and practical execution, empowering organizations to embed governance into everyday decision-making.

A New Orleans native, Ralph earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College. He is the co-author of the June 2025 Nature article, “An early pipeline framework for assessing vendor AI solutions to support return on investment,” which explores AI governance frameworks in healthcare. Ralph is a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and a frequent speaker and advisor on the future of data and AI in healthcare. In addition to his deep expertise in healthcare AI, Ralph also speaks widely on the broader landscape of artificial intelligence, offering insights into emerging trends, innovations and the future of AI across industries.

The Four Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:
Of the things we think, say or do:

1.     Is it the TRUTH?

2.     Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.     Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4.     Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
