Interim Inspector General
Interim Inspector General

Edward Michel retired from the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ) in 2019 after more than 23 years of service. During his tenure at the DOJ he served in several leadership roles within the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to include Special Assistant to the Assistant Director, Unit Chief of the Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force and Hurricane Katrina Fraud Task Force as well as Assistant Special Agent in Charge. Upon retirement from the FBI, Mr. Michel accepted a position with the New Orleans Office of Inspector General as the First Assistant Inspector General for Criminal Investigations and IT Program Manager. Mr. Michel formerly served as the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force Commander as well as Inspector and has a proven track record of leading teams to successfully complete enterprise-wide goals and objectives to ensure the successful integration of strategies to identify and mitigate fraud, waste, abuse and public corruption.

Mr. Michel is a Senior Law Enforcement Executive with more than 30 years of local, state and federal law enforcement experience providing superior expertise in the areas of White-Collar Crime, Collusion and Threat Intervention, Strategy Formulation, Field Training, Career and Organizational Development. He has expertise in providing root cause assessments which can significantly increase effectiveness through leadership, training and consultation. He has been a key strategist with the DOJ who excelled in crisis management, performance optimization and budget creation and expenditure, while increasing productivity and effectiveness of programs under his leadership.

Mr. Michel also served as the FBI Division’s Media Representative, and Certified Police Instructor as well as a member of the Evidence Response Team. He directed sensitive Public Corruption Investigations which resulted in the convictions of several Public Officials who were utilizing public office for personal gain. He also served as the National Indian Gaming Working Group Coordinator where he created and implemented Internal Control Standards as well as developing a National Conference Training Agenda designed to protect the integrity of Indian Gaming, a $28 billion dollar a year industry. Mr. Michel also developed and implemented an Operational Regulatory Unit to conduct inspections to comply with the Congressional requirements of the Child Protection and Obscenity Enforcement Act of 1988 which required compliance by the producers of sexually explicit materials. He also managed Crimes on the High Seas investigations in his capacity as a Special Jurisdiction Supervisory Special Agent.

Mr. Michel attended Tulane University where he received a Master of Professional Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Paralegal Studies. While employed by the Department of Justice, Mr. Michel received the Integrity Award from the Office of Inspector General, U.S. Health and Human Services for his relentless pursuit of fraud, waste, and abuse as well as the Spirit of Courage award from the NAACP.

The Four Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:
Of the things we think, say or do:

1.     Is it the TRUTH?

2.     Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.     Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4.     Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
