In 1999, just one year before the scheduled opening of the D-Day Museum (now the National WWII Museum), the project faced a critical shortfall: $4 million was needed to complete construction and open the museum as planned on June 6, 2000, the 55th anniversary of D-Day.
To meet this challenge, founders Stephen Ambrose and Nick Mueller turned to local leaders for support. They approached fellow Rotarian Frank Stuart, Past President of the Rotary Club of New Orleans, with a bold proposal: a $2,000,000 pledge would serve as the capstone gift to secure the museum’s future and signal strong support from the local business community.
Frank didn’t hesitate. “Yes,” he said, “I want to do it!”
Thanks to Frank Stuart’s vision and generosity, the museum opened on schedule and has grown into a world-renowned institution preserving and honoring the legacy of the Greatest Generation.
This June 6th marked the 25th anniversary of the museum’s opening, and a proud moment in Rotary history.

As part of our continuing effort to strengthen connections within our Club, we have launched a new Pairing/Buddy System, where each member is assigned to a small group of fellow Rotarians. The goal is simple: stay in touch regularly, whether by text, phone, email, or in person. Just a quick check-in every week or two can go a long way in building stronger bonds and ensuring we’re supporting each other like the Rotary family we are.
Each member should have received an email from John Olinde with your group assignment and contact details for your group members. If you didn’t receive the email, please:
Check your spam folder, or
Reach out to John directly at johnfolinde@gmail.com
We encourage you to take a moment each week to connect with your group members. This is a simple but meaningful way to engage more deeply with fellow Rotarians and foster our core value of fellowship.
Thank you for your participation in this initiative, and let’s continue to make our Club a place where strong connections thrive.
Our club is seeking input from members on what kind of speakers you would like to see going forward. Please forward all suggestions to Seth Nehrbass, SNehrbass@gmail.com.
