Conseil pour le développement du français en Louisiane (CODOFIL)
Peggy Somers Feehan is a native French speaker, born in New Brunswick, and educated there. She teaches high school science before moving to Louisiana in 1999. She was recruited by CODOFIL to teach French, which she did until 2006.
From 2006 to 2014, she worked as a consultant, first in St. Martin Parish and then for the Louisiana Department of Education.
In February 2015, she started working for the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL). Her main duties were recruiting international French teachers.
On January 1, 2018, she assumed her new role as Executive Director. She is also the official representative for the state to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), a board member of the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques and of the Friends of French Studies at LSU.
Ms. Feehan earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2007.
Ms. Feehan is married to Scott, Executive Director of Festival International, and together they are raising their two children, Elaine and Jeremi, in French and English!
As we reflect on the start of this new year, our hearts are heavy in the wake of the tragic terror attack that occurred in the French Quarter over the holiday. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence.
The French Quarter is not only the heart of our city but a cherished place that embodies the rich culture, resilience, and spirit of New Orleans. In times like these, we are reminded of the strength found in our community and the importance of standing together.
As Rotarians, we are committed to fostering peace, supporting those in need, and helping rebuild in the face of adversity. Let us continue to lead by example, offering our compassion and assistance wherever possible.
All Rotary members and your friends are invited to the Send Off Reception when we say Good Bye to our French Visitors. Please come to the Jazz Museum at 400 Esplanade Ave. at 5:30 pm for presentations and words from dignitaries then followed by a special jazz concert featuring Victor Campbell performing solo. He is actually the pianist traveling with the N O Jazz Museum to Orleans to perform at the Grand Piano Festival 2025.
Lets send our French guests off in true New Orleans style.
Attached are photos from Ms. Chandra at St. Xavier’s School and Orphanage, nestled in the remote west Sikkim Province of the Indian Himalayas, near the borders of Nepal and Tibet. Our Rotary Club has had the privilege of working with St. Xavier’s over the years, and several of our members have visited the school in person.
Through our collective efforts, we’ve been able to provide computer equipment, establish their first-ever Internet connection, and contribute funds for essential items like beds, bedding, and food. These resources have made a tangible difference in the lives of the children and staff.
As they endure the winter season, our continued support is more important than ever. We are proud to be part of their journey and grateful for the opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Thank you to all who have contributed to this meaningful project. Your generosity continues to transform lives across the globe.
Our club is seeking input from members on what kind of speakers you would like to see going forward. Please forward all suggestions to Seth Nehrbass, SNehrbass@gmail.com.
The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings: Of the things we think, say or do:
