New Volunteer Opportunities
1. Angel Cutno has a friend who is organizing people to participate in
supporting small restaurants as well as supporting first responders. The
details are simple: you place a catering order with a small business and her
friend will identify a group of first responders who have not received a
meal (from her sources) recently. We would then organize the pick-up of
the food and the drop-off to the first responders. If interested, contact

2. The United Way in the New Orleans area needs volunteers to help
people impacted during the COVID-19 crisis, from delivery drivers to
callers. Drivers are needed to deliver meals provided by local food
banks. Callers are needed to do follow up checks to make sure seniors
received the meals.

3. The Blood Center needs blood.
4. A partnership of all higher education institutions in Louisiana, led by the University of Louisiana System and Louisiana State University, is mobilizing our students and graduates in healthcare professions. They need volunteers in all medical backgrounds. There are also asking for community volunteers, including college students and others who could help with technical assistance, volunteer coordination efforts and more. Sign up through this link:
5. East Jefferson General Hospital is seeking volunteers and a space adequate for an assembly line to convert plastic material they have into Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Volunteers need only be able to follow a pattern. To volunteer time or a space email Beth Lacoste at blacoste@ejgh.org.
New Merchandise Donations:
1. Personal Protective Equipment. The City of New Orleans launched a week-long personal protective equipment (PPE) drive for first responders, who are in desperate need of additional PPE. … Individuals or businesses in the New Orleans region who have PPE and are willing to spare it for a first responder are asked to drop items at one of three re-purposed Salvation Army drop boxes adjacent to New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) firehouses. Businesses that may have these items in their inventory include construction companies, non-emergency medical providers like dentist offices, tattoo parlors, nail salons and spas, restaurants, and housekeeping companies. For donations larger than what could fit in a drop box, please contact ppedonations@nola.gov.

Items accepted include unused, unopened: • Masks (surgical, P100, N95) • Gloves (latex or nitrile) • Disposable Medical Gowns • Goggles • Face Shields.
Please wrap items in a plastic bag before dropping in the box. Do not drop items such as clothing or household goods, which could damage the PPE already in the box and render it unusable. Do not drop PPE in any other Salvation Army box. The three PPE donation boxes are clearly labeled for PPE. Donations will be collected from the drop boxes regularly by the NOFD and will be inventoried for use by EMS. The PPE donation drive will last through Sunday, Apr. 5 or until further notice.

Morial Convention Center. • Nanno, in partnership with local company Kaleidoscope Early Learning, said it is adding 200+ babysitters to its online platform to provide in-home childcare for essential workers. • Posigen said it is hiring for 20+ roles from account management to field operations to procurement and logistics. • Rouses said it is hiring for nearly all roles, including stockers, cashiers and cleaning crew. • Zatarain’s said job seekers may apply on their corporate site. National employers with regional locations in Louisiana also are hiring: • Amazon said it is adding 100,000 workers nationwide. • America Works of Louisiana provides job skills training and job placement assistance to anyone in Louisiana ages 18-64 who is receiving Social Security or Social Security disability and wants to return to work, including during the pandemic. • Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) Gulf Coast said the AWG warehouse in Pearl River is hiring 84 full-time operators. • CVS said it is accelerating a plan to fill over 32,000 part-time and full-time positions across the country. • Dollar General said it plans to hire 50,000 employees by the end of April to accommodate the increase in shoppers. • Domino’s Pizza said it’s adding 10,000 employees nationwide. • Instacart said it’s adding 300,000 shoppers to its payroll. • Lowe’s said it’s hiring 30,000 full-time, part-time, overnight and seasonal roles. • Outschool said it’s seeking 5,000 teachers to offer online classes in light of school closures. • Papa John’s said it’s aiming to hire up to 20,000 new team members across the country for delivery and takeout roles. • PepsiCo said it’s adding 6,000 new employees. • U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting for thousands of jobs across the country. • Walgreen’s is hiring 9,500 new workers and giving bonuses in response to the pandemic. • Walmart – In Louisiana, Walmart plans to hire more than 3,500 associates to work in stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers.
• Whole Foods said it’s hiring over 7,000 employees to fill front-end, grocery, shopper and other positions. • Winn-Dixie – Parent company Southeastern Grocers says it will “expeditiously hire” those affected by coronavirus layoffs.
