This Week's Speaker
Mar 20, 2019

Now entering her 42nd season as the mastermind of the LSU gymnastics program, Breaux exudes the same passion and enthusiasm to coach the Fighting Tigers as she did in her first season on the job.

Breaux has worked tirelessly to make LSU gymnastics the most exciting and family-friend event in the city, state and country on a Friday night. Tiger fans have continually set the bar higher with record attendance numbers set and their support has led the program to a perfect 34-0 record at home over the last five seasons.

Friday night inside the Maravich Center is a major attraction in Baton Rouge, and the attendance records have been rewritten thanks to the hard work by Breaux and her staff. In 2018, LSU sold out the PMAC against Alabama and Kentucky. LSU set the single-meet attendance record with 13,729 in the arena to watch the Tigers take down the Crimson Tide.

As the “Dean of Coaches” at LSU, Breaux has represented the University at the highest level both in the gym and, most importantly, in the classroom for 41 years. Her dedication to the student-athlete on an individual basis has transcended into academic success, community involvement, Coach of the Year honors, SEC Championships, NCAA Regional Championships and top-10 national rankings throughout her tenure. In fact, there is a tremendous balance between academics and athletics as LSU has produced 239 All-Americans and 150 Scholastic All-Americans during Breaux’s tenure.

Neutral Ground Maintenance--You Are Needed!

The neutral ground is located on Poydras Street between Tchoupitoulas Street and South Peters Street. The Rotary signs make it easy to see where you need to go. Two or three Rotarians are scheduled each week, but you can get creative and have others help if you wish. If you cannot work during the scheduled week, try to switch off with someone else. During your week, the deal is to pick up trash or broken limbs you find on the neutral ground. You can bring your own garbage bag and gloves. The trash pick up takes less than 15 minutes but be careful on the busy street. After you are finished, just throw the garbage bag into one of the public trash containers on Poydras Street.

Week of 03/18/19  Henry Lowentritt, Dick McCarthy
Week of 03/25/19  Ryan McCroskey, Dianne McGraw

During the year, we will arrange to do more gardening work on the neutral ground and go to lunch afterward.

REMEMBER that in addition to keeping up this stretch of Poydras Street, this is a great way to get to know your fellow Rotarians. Also, if you cannot perform your assigned task think about getting a group of younger folks to handle it for you. They can be Interactors, high schoolers looking for community service hours or just folks looking for a way to get involved.
