2016 Rotary Spelling Bee
The New Orleans Rotary Club is proud to announce our upcoming "2016 Rotary Club of New Orleans Spelling Bee".  This annual event offers a fun-filled evening where business leaders, local area High School students, and members of the community can compete, get to know one another, and enjoy networking and fellowship while enjoying delicious fare and spirits.

The New Orleans Rotary Club Spelling Bee is our biggest fundraising event. For years we have raised thousands of dollars towards continuing education for our area’s youth.  We invite your Company to become a Sponsor of this event.

Please consider this extremely effective and worthwhile cause. 100% of all proceeds from this event will go to Scholarships and your Sponsoring Company name and logo will be displayed at your sponsored tables, at the entry to the event, and in our New Orleans Rotary website article and BOLO Newsletter.

Contributions of $1,000.00 or more would receive recognition at the event as well as on our organization’s website and social media outlets.  You will also be invited to attend our annual scholarship award ceremony held in the spring and receive recognition there as well.
Your Company can even field its own team of four participants for $500 and be recognized at the event.  Non-Rotarians (or PRE-Rotarians, as we like to consider them) are not only welcome but strongly encouraged!

Details are as follows:
Date:   Thursday, Nov. 3th
Time:   5:30-8:00 PM
Loc'n: Junior Achievement BIZ TOWN, 5100 Orleans Avenue (ENTER on Navarre St. Parking lot behind Delgado Campus)

As a Sponsor, you will receive recognition at an event attended by many local business leaders, and you will join the New Orleans Rotary Club as we work to help local needy but high-achieving students, who have been accepted into great Institutions of higher learning, with the funds they and their families need to embrace those opportunities.  This is how we New Orleanians build a stronger city by working together: by investing in the things that count, our kids and our future!
If you are interested in becoming a Sponsor, please complete the sponsorship form located at this link:

portal.clubrunner.ca/6033/Documents/en-ca/46918cce-fbc8-4887-a43c-69c86e8b09f9/1/

and mail it and a check as detailed on the form.  If  you have any questions, please contact Heather Kirk at 504 582-8579 / hkirk@joneswalker.com, Ellen Yellin at 504-831-4949/ elleny@bb-cpa.com or Bootsie Smith at 504-841-2898/bootsiesmith@gulfbank.com.

New Orleans Rotary has a FACEBOOK page

The club is on Facebook in two different ways and we encourage everyone to connect in both ways. We have a Facebook PAGE that is public and meant as a way for us to show the rest of the world what we do, including convincing prospective members that we are worth joining. Please like the page if you haven't already, and invite others to like it too!
We also have a Facebook GROUP that is only for members and not accessible to others. The purpose of this group is to share information with fellow members, and ask for help when there is something you think other members can help with. Think of it as the fun bucket, just free (but you can always donate to NORFI if you want). Also think of it as somewhere to share something that you think is not quite important or club-relevant enough that you would email all the members about it, but you DO want people to know. Shameless self-promotion is perfectly acceptable.
The Facebook PAGE that is open for all is at https://www.facebook.com/RotaryNewOrleans/
The Facebook GROUP that is only open to members is at https://www.facebook.com/groups/289140871203308/

Neutral Ground Maintenance--You Are Needed!

The neutral ground is located on Poydras Street between Tchoupitoulas Street and South Peters Street. The new signs make it easy to see where you need to go. Two or three Rotarians are scheduled each week, but you can get creative and have others help if you wish. If you cannot work during the scheduled week, try to switch off with someone else. During your week, the deal is to pick up trash or broken limbs you find on the neutral ground. You can bring your own garbage bag and gloves. The trash pick up takes less than 15 minutes but be careful on the busy street. After you are finished, just throw the garbage bag into one of the public trash containers on Poydras Street.

Week of 10/24/2016, Demetrius Porche, Fred Preis
Week of 10/31/2016, Sidney Pulitzer, Francis Quinn

During the year, we will arrange to do more gardening work on the neutral ground and go to lunch afterward.

REMEMBER that in addition to keeping up this stretch of Poydras Street, this is a great way to get to know your fellow Rotarians. Also, if you cannot perform your assigned task think about getting a group of younger folks to handle it for you. They can be Interactors, high schoolers looking for community service hours or just folks looking for a way to get involved.
