Thanks for helping - Poydras Street Project

Fun was had by all at the Saturday planting and clean up.  More than ten Rotarians (not all pictured here) helped plant 7 flats of pink flowers on our neutral ground spot. We topped off the hard work with lunch and beverages.  Thanks to everyone for making our little slice of New Orleans beautiful!!

The neutral ground is located on Poydras Street between Tchoupitoulas Street and South Peters Street. The new signs make it easy to see where you need to go.

Two or three Rotarians are scheduled each week, but you can get creative and have others help if you wish.  If you cannot work during the scheduled week, try to switch off with someone else.

During your week, the deal is to pick up trash or broken limbs you find on the neutral ground.  You can bring your own garbage bag and gloves or you can go to the W Hotel on Poydras and ask for a security officer (Leo or Theodore Davis preferably).  The supplies are kept by the W Hotel for us in a cage near the Security Office.  There is a plastic bin with Rotary's name on it that contains gloves, garbage bags and a set of hand clippers.  There are also 3 orange cones for your use with Rotary's name on them.

The trash pick up takes less than 15 minutes but be careful on the busy street.  After you are finished, just throw the garbage bag into one of the public trash containers on Poydras Street. 

During the year, we will arrange to do more gardening work on the neutral ground and go to lunch afterward.  If you wish to head up one of the projects, please email or speak with John Olinde or Kevin Laborde.

REMEMBER that in addition to keeping up this stretch of Poydras Street, this is a great way to get to know your fellow Rotarians. Also, if you cannot perform your assigned task think about getting a group of younger folks to handle it for you. They can be Interactors, high schoolers looking for community service hours or just folks looking for a way to get involved.
