2016 Hilo Brewfest

Join the Rotary Club of Hilo and the Hilo Rotary Club Foundation for our Fourth Annual Hilo Brewfest at the beautiful Wainaku Executive Center on June 18, 2016 from 1 to 5 p.m.  This fundraiser combines fun and support for worthy causes. Attendees will taste beers from craft breweries throughout Hawaii and the mainland, sample food from local chefs and listen to live music. With the help of our sponsors and volunteers, we hope to raise thousands of dollars and create awareness of these much needed programs.

This year’s beneficiaries include:

The Hilo Medical Center Foundation’s support of the HHSC Primary Care Physician Training.  As many of our residents on the Big Island of Hawaii are aware, our island has a severe doctor shortage. The Primary Care Physician Training Program seeks to address this issue by establishing a residency program in Hilo.  Research shows that at least 70 percent of doctors stay and work where they complete their residency.  In addition, medical students who train here can become a part of the community to better understand the unique local needs and challenges that exist on the island.

The Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of East Hawaii. The Friends of the CJCEH is a private nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the Children's Justice Center of East Hawaii, a Hawaii State Judiciary program that investigates child abuse and neglect.  The Friends raise money to help identified abused children in greater Hilo area.  Through Special Needs Requests from Social Workers, Therapists and others, the Friends support children's emergency needs and life enhancements.  The Friends work to help children of abuse today and to break the cycle of abuse tomorrow.

The Hilo Rotary Club Foundation. The Rotary Club of Hilo supports numerous community service projects, organizations and strives to fulfill the needs of our community members. Examples of service projects and organizations we support or have supported include: delivering dictionaries to elementary school children, vision screening, providing an AED for HOPE Services, Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army, providing school supplies and clothing for under privileged children, securing computers for Kau School, and supporting social workers and foster parents via Partners in Development.
