The annual Career Fair at Holy Spirit High (HSH) - co-hosted with the HSH Interact Club was a great success on Wednesday January 8th - the result of amazing collaboration with school, business community and institutions - with over 55 occupations represented and some 80 folks participating. Special thanks to Rotarians Mike, Art and Kevin, HSH Principal Dave and Interact President Sarah and VP Precious for all the hosting, set up and catering work.
 
Club members hosting a Christmas sing-along with Cherry Hill Manor residents and staff this past Wednesday while helping Santa deliver gifts to all. 
On December 13th, New Generations Committee, on behalf of our club, was pleased to present food and monetary donations in support of the HSH Interact Club Xmas Food Drive (CBS/Paradise Food Bank). In addition we were happy to support the "Students Helping Students " program at the school by purchasing Hot Chocolate Cones.
 
Principal Locke and Interact President Sarah Ryan accepted our donations/purchases.  Junior Rotarians are our future community leaders!
 
Rotary was happy to sponsor the Town of CBS Christmas Seniors Social at the Kelligrews Legion this past Thursday December 12th. 220 folks enjoyed live music and lunch served by Town staff and community volunteers, including Miss Newfoundland and Labrador, Megan Coles!
 
A merry time was had by members and their families at our Christmas dinner this past Wednesday evening.  President Ian thanked the Board and members for their support and commitment over this past year and pointed to the exciting year ahead, in service to the community. A big thank you to the Yacht Club staff for a wonderful dinner and to Shawn and Cassandra from Frequency Music for their festive music over the course of the evening.
Congratulations to Leah Casey, this year's Holy Spirit High (HSH) recipient of Rotary Avalon Northeast's Ross Reccord Memorial Scholarship. Leah graduated in June 2024 and is Past President of the Interact Club, demonstrating "Service Above Self" throughout her time at HSH. Rotarian Kevin Ryan and Maxine Pinhorn (Ross's wife) made the presentation at the November 28th HSH Awards night.
 
On November 27th our club welcomed Kevin Ryan as our newest member. Kevin brings a diverse set of skills from his work as an educator, engineer and entrepreneur. Listening to his daughter, current Holy Spirit High Interact President, speak of her club and collaboration with our club - Kevin thought it was a good fit for him. We look forward to his contributions!
 
In honour of Rotary's World Interact Week, we welcomed guest speakers to our November 13th club meeting. Holy Spirit High Interact President Sarah Ryan and club member Elizabeth Hollett spoke about their busy schedule of recent and pending club and school activities supported along the way by Rotary Avalon Northeast.
 
A good time was had at our family social at Paradise Bowling on Wednesday November 20th. Thanks Karen for all the arrangements...and great pizza!
Thank you Rotarians Dave Works and Gerry Power for laying a wreath at the Town of Paradise Cenotaph on November 11th -  in honour of those who gave their lives to serve our country. Rotary Avalon Northeast will remember them.
 
We welcomed not one, but two guest speakers to our club meeting on November 6th to share information on Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) - a national leadership organization for Canada's over 200 local community foundations - including Newfoundland and Labrador. Together with community foundations across the country, they help drive local solutions for national change on the issues that matter most to communities.
 
Rotary loves to collaborate with the Town of CBS - supporting seniors to be active. Whether cost sharing or load sharing, we had a beautiful fall morning yesterday (October 23) helping out at a boil up for the last Wellness Walk for the season.
 
 
On October 16th, Rotary Club of Avalon was delighted to welcome new member Mohamed Abdallah.  Mohamed has set a high bar for community service in his role as Executive Director and Co-Founder for Connections For Seniors - the non-profit organization providing much-needed, fundamental support services for seniors.
 
 
On October 9th, we welcomed guest speaker, Lisa-Marie Fifield - Executive Director with United Way of NL & Lab. Lisa spoke about how United Way partners with agencies and organizations province-wide to provide services that strengthen individuals, families, and communities. Simply put, United Way is a charity’s charity, distributing funds to community groups who seek financial support for various projects they are unable to fund independently.
Thank you for sharing your experiences in the pursuit of philanthropy - based on voluntary action for the common good.
 
On October 6, 2024 club members joined the Holy Spirit High Interact Club at Bowring Park for the annual CIBC Run for the Cure (breast cancer research fundraiser).  This first Interact Club event for the new school year raised over $1,100 for breast cancer research, including our club contribution, and contributed to more than $15 million raised nationwide.
 
 
Area Governor Laurie Twells joined us for dinner on Wednesday September 19th.  Laurie brought greetings from District Governor Jillian Gibson and provided an overview of the new Rotary year - "The Magic of Rotary" (theme), our District 7815 Management Team - its people and activities.
 
Rotary working with service organizations (KINs and Lions) on Sunday July 14th: serving hamburgers and hotdogs supplied by the Town of Conception Bay South for families attending the rescheduled Kelligrews Soiree Family Day at Upper Gullies Elementary School grounds.  Great weather, great turnout and great collaboration.

On June 12, we were honoured to have visitors - Past District Governor Magali Fuss-Rebate and her husband Emmanuel (from France) who are the Rotary International Representatives to the District 7815 Conference on Saint Pierre (June 14-16, 2024).
 
Thanks Holy Spirit High Interact and Environment Clubs for inviting us to join you on June 8th for this year’s 3-Hour Community Cleanup. Supporting the Environment is a key focus of Rotary.
 
Thank you to all the employers and students at Queen Elizabeth Regional High that made Rotary Avalon Northeast's 2nd Annual Job Fair on May 28th a great success. Lots of employment info was exchanged along with at least one job offer!

Sunday October 2 2022 - A perfect morning to join Holy Spirit High Interact at the annual Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure at Quidi Vidi Park. The team raised almost $1000 towards a provincial total of over $77,000.
A Rotary MultiClub social was held at O’Briens farm and participants enjoyed an evening of fellowship, a BBQ and a sing along around the fire. Many thanks to the Rotary Clubs of St. John’s and St. John’s East for organizing this event!
The Rotary Club of Avalon Northeast was delighted to welcome Eastern Area Governor Jim Carroll to our meeting on September 21, 2022. Jim encouraged the St. John’s area clubs working closer together and the first step in this will be the Multi-Club Social on September 29th at O’Brien’s Farm.
A Rotary Multi-Club social, hosted by the Rotary Clubs of St. John’s East and St. John’s,  was held at O’Brien’s farm was held on September 29th, 2022. Rotarians met for fellowship, a lovely BBQ and a sing-along around the camp fire! 
A great evening at Topsail Beach for the club’s annual BBQ! The weather cooperated and we enjoyed a lovely evening of fellowship.
