TJ introduced Mike Stanyard to speak about the Industrial Hemp Industry
Mike noted that hemp was first grown for making rope in the WWII era, and has since been used for fiber, grain and oil. The core fiber can be used to make a form of concrete and the CBD oil is used for healing. The hemp is regulated to have less than .3% THC . If the THC percentage is too high the plants will be destroyed. In 2016 there were 15 regulated hemp farms in New York State, there are now 33. Just like other crops hemp is affected by insects and the lack of certified insecticides, fungicides and herbicides. The Geneva Experimental Station has a working farm testing multiple varieties.
