Wayne Arts president Mary Christopher with Pal-Mac Rotary president Pam Dean

Today’s guest speaker shed some light on the hidden talents of Wayne County.  Mary Christopher is president of the Wayne County Council for the Arts, also known as Wayne Arts.  Established in 1977, Wayne Arts is a non-profit organization which promotes arts participation and appreciation for artists and the public and is headquartered in Newark.

Mary informed us that the group has two galleries in their building at 108 W. Miller Street.  They have monthly exhibits there, and every year 2 shows are devoted to area middle school and high school art departments.  The high school exhibit is put on in March, with the middle school exhibit in April.

Wayne Arts offers art classes for all ages and skill levels, and has a gallery store where artists can sell their works.  The gallery store is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, or by appointment.  Mary brought some of the members’ works with her to give us an idea of the variety of talents their members have.

It was an eye-opener to see the level of artistic talent and variety of works the members of Wayne Arts produce.  And to think, these artists are right here in our own community.  If you would like to join, volunteer, donate, or get more information about the Wayne County Council for the Arts, please call 315-331-4593 or visit their webpage at waynearts.wordpress.com
