Pat had good news: Leigh-Ann’s last chemo treatment is next week.

Jim DeBruyne recently broke his hip; now he’s in Clifton Springs hospital with a nasty infection.

What’s New with Sofia?

Sofia had her second football game this weekend. They lost again, but it’s fine. This week is homecoming week, so there’s a game on Friday. Then, this weekend is a common weekend with all the District’s exchange students. So, that will be fun.

Singing:

Our lovely and talented songleader Kim introduced us to her newest lyrical creation “The Purple Painted Lady Song.”

Birthdays and Anniversaries:

Shirley Bassage’s birthday was last week and yesterday was Arnie Pechler’s birthday.

Fines, Happy Bucks and Confessions:

• Tina fined herself for having missed some meetings in addition to having to leave early today. Work is busy!

• Bob Sloan is the new president of the Camp Onseyawa board.

• Sofia offered Leslie’s happy buck in honor of Marty, who gave blood at the Interact blood drive last week.

• Chris had happy bucks for a pretty cool night the other night. He had the opportunity to be backstage with Ace Frehley, formerly of KISS. Chris’ stepfather’s brother is Richie Scarlet, one of Frehley’s Comet, which was the band Frehley formed when he left KISS. So that’s Uncle Richie, who arranged to get them backstage, where they had a great time rockin’ in Buffalo.

• Eric had “lots of stuff.” First, he went to the Bills game on Sunday (vs the Patriots) where his enthusiasm lasted almost halfway through the first quarter. Second, he missed last week’s meeting due to an insurance conference in Albany (kind of boring). Third, the week before that he and Edie went to Virginia to help Kyle do what’s called “slack-packing.” Kyle and his friends are hiking the Appalachian Trail, and Eric and Edie transported most of the team’s gear one day, which allowed the boys to hike with only a day pack that day. The guys are hiking between 22 and 28 miles each day. They’ve covered about 1500 miles, with 600 miles to go. They started on June 16th and hope to be done by October 24th.

• Pat offered up a happy buck for Bob Yost’s “Party on the Porch.” Mark pitched in, too, thanking Bob for his efforts to help promote international friendship. The visiting fife and drum corps stopped by and were made to feel welcome.

Notes and Updates for the Club:

- Thanks to the club’s Canaltown Days committee for their efforts in organizing last weekend’s fundraiser. Saturday’s crowd was light, due to weather. That worked to our advantage since the car show was moved to Sunday. That brought out some people who might not otherwise have attended on Sunday. The drawing raised over $1500. A list of winners appears at the end of the newsletter.

- Our club will be providing copies of the children’s book, “Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure” to second-grade classrooms at Pal-Mac. The book tells a story showing how the Four-Way Test helps a young entrepreneur. The club will be purchasing 10 copies; we are asking club members to sponsor additional copies, at $10 each, so that we can distribute more. All books will be labeled as donated by the club, or the individual club member in the case of sponsored books. A signup sheet is being passed at meetings, and so far we’ve had 25 people sign up. Thank you!

- The Rotary Leadership Institute has a session coming up on November 7th at the Canandaigua Inn on the Lake. All courses will be available. Starting this year, the graduate course will change each year. So if you’ve taken the graduate course before, this year’s course will cover new things. Registration is open until November 2nd and can be accessed through the District website. (Click here.)

Our favorite “BB” Kim Clement gave a quick update on the Fair Booth results. Last year’s gross income was $9,029 in a rainy, rainy year. This year, we grossed $9,479 despite what felt like slow business. We actually came in $350 over our budget estimate this year. Kim then presented a quiz, asking us to guess how much product we went through. Bill Dean had the highest number of correct answers. His prize? A pack of hot dogs, buns, and a bag of french fries.

Congratulations to Bob Yost, who won $13 in this week’s 50/50 drawing.
