Singing:

Birthdays and Anniversaries:
Anne and Dave Morrell’s wedding 35th anniversary was 8/16.

Fines, Happy Bucks and Confessions:
• Mark and Kim spent two weeks visiting friends in California.  They stayed busy with a trip to Lake Havasu in Arizona, where they took a ride up the Colorado River in a jet-boat.  The scenery was incredible.  They also spent two days in the Sequoia National Forest and King’s Canyon.  On their last day they went deep-sea fishing, seeking yellowfin tuna.  Kim landed one about 40 pounds.
• Dan Clement turns 25 tomorrow (9/3) and will be returning to St. John Fisher to finish his bachelor’s degree, while Cody starts his second year teaching full-time in Prattsburgh.
• Tom Breen had a couple happy bucks for the Youth Exchange Orientation this past weekend in Clifton Springs.  Bob Yost and Margaret Brooks joined him in delivering and serving lunch for the occasion.  They met a bunch of really great kids and Rotarians and Rotex.  He also fined himself for the lack of singing at the last two meetings, which he ran.
• Anne passed around a card from the exchange students thanking our club for providing lunch on Sunday, and added her thanks as well.  She echoed Tom’s sentiment that we have a great bunch of kids this year.  She got to spend some time with Sofia, driving back and forth, and said that Sofia is just great and full of life.
• Eric said he wasn't with us last Wednesday, because they went up to Burlington to see Kari.  Kyle is on his way to Georgia on the Appalachian Trail; he’s covered about 1100 miles so far.  Eric and Edie will be meeting him next week and lighten his load.  Kyle and his friends will put the bulk of their gear in Eric’s vehicle, then hike about 30 miles in a day carrying only day packs.  Eric and Edie will drive on ahead and meet them at the end of the day.
• Nancy spent the weekend in the Thousand Islands at her brother’s cottage.  He and his wife are moving to Florida now that he’s just retired.  This was Nancy’s first time on a jet-ski.  It was a fabulous weekend.
• Kim had a bittersweet buck.  She and Mark got back Tuesday morning around 10 after a long red-eye flight and 3-hour layover in Newark, NJ.  Now tomorrow, she’ll be getting on a 6am flight (end of the sad part) to go pick up their granddaughter Sophia (happy part)!  They will have her for a couple weeks.
• Bill Dean confessed to taking his badge home.
• Bob Yost confessed that he wasn’t really in California with Mark and Kim, and fined himself $1 for photoshopping himself into one of their vacation photos on Facebook.
The infamous Facebook photo.

Notes and Updates for the Club:
- School starts next week.  Again this year, our club will be doing the “Rotary Reads” program, where club members get adopted by elementary school classrooms to come in once a week and read to the students.  It’s a great opportunity to promote literacy and it’s a fun time for the students and the Rotarians.

-  A signup sheet will for Canaltown Days weekend is making the rounds at our meetings.  Please help out if you can, and in the meantime keep selling those tickets!  Currently, we are most in need of help Saturday afternoon (3 – 6).  Our booth is right on Main Street across from the judges’ platform.  It’s a great spot to watch the parade, and it’s within walking distance of Bob Yost’s porch.

- The Purple Painted Lady Barn Sale is coming up Saturday, September 26.  Again this year, our club is handling the parking for the event.  A signup sheet is being passed and we need lots of help.  Last year, we raised over $3000 from this one-day event.  We have several shifts, none of which is more than a couple hours.  If you haven’t signed up and can help out, please contact Dianne Sloan.

- Our club assembly on September 30 will also be the Official Visit of our District Governor Bill Gormont.  We always have a strong show of support for our DGs and hope to see you there.

- AG Pam reminds us that there is a District Literacy Seminar on Saturday 9/19 at the Rotary Room in Clifton Springs Hospital, from 8:45 – 11:15.  Also, there is a One Summit meeting on Saturday 9/26 at Harris-Beach in Pittsford.  Both events are morning events, so there would be plenty of time to attend them and still help out with our fundraising events afterwards.  (Hint, hint.)

- The Pal-Mac Interact Club is hosting a blood drive at the PM High School on Friday, September 18.  The club has earned $400 in scholarships the past two years.  Red Cross rewards them with a $250 scholarship for meeting the number of units goal, and an additional $150 if you exceed the previous year’s total.  So that’s two years in a row that they have exceeded their goal.

- Gary Haigh is hosting a labeling party for the Dictionary Project at his house tonight, and through the magic of internet time travel, we already have a photo of the happy group.

Dave Stachnik won $11 in this week's 50/50.

Next meeting:           Noon, Wednesday 9/9 Palmyra American Legion.
