Birthdays / Anniversaries:

Shirley B celebrated “the anniversary of her 39th birthday.  Or "four-score and six," for those who count that way.

Fines, Happy Bucks, Confessions:

-  Gene had happy bucks, because he got to spend most of Shirley’s years with her.  Also, over Canaltown Days weekend, he was able to spend time with all his girls:  2 daughters, 2 granddaughters, and the great-granddaughters.
-  Arnie offered up a happy buck in honor of Canaltown Days.
-  Deb had happy bucks to celebrate our Canaltown Days fundraiser.  We raised just under $1,600 this year, and Deb offered thanks to all who sold tickets at the festival and at Breen’s.
-  Richard and Wynette were winners of one of the Breen’s gift cards from our drawing.  He offered a happy buck, feeling reassured that they won’t starve now.
-  Bob Yost had bucks for playing in the District Golf tournament, which was fun regardless of how they played; also for the annual “Party on the Porch.”
-  Dave Read had a happy buck for the “Party on the Porch” and in thanks to Bob for the use of the parking lot.  Dave also pitched in the second half of last week’s happy buck, as Teddy passed his pilot’s test with flying colors.
-  Terri, Anne, and Dianne all had matching happy bucks for the “Party on the Porch.”
-  Jeff threw in a dollar because he was “just happy to be here.”

Our speaker today was John Schlafer, who would like to do something to give back to the Finger Lakes Ambulance personnel.  Not long ago, John’s wife became ill and required many transports to the hospital in Newark.  As John would ride along in the ambulance, he had opportunity to talk with and get to know some of the ambulance crew.  During these conversations, he learned that one part of the job was to sit in the rig at the staging areas, while waiting for calls.  During the summer months, it gets quite toasty in the rig, and though they try to move to shaded areas, it still gets very warm.
John would like to find a way to provide shelter for the rigs.  His first choice would be a permanent structure, such as the old PVA building or similar.  None are available, so he has been looking into portable carports.  He would like to purchase and erect one in the parking lot at Breen’s, which is the current staging area for Finger Lakes Ambulance for the village of Palmyra.  Such a structure would cost from $800-$2500, depending on the materials and type.  John is seeking donations and is open to other suggestions.
If you would like to talk with John, or make a contribution to his cause, Dianne has his contact information.
