This Week in History:
Thursday, September 17 is Constitution Day in the US.  On that day in 1787, the US Continental Convention signed the final draft of our United States Constitution.  It would not go into effect until 1789, by which time 11 states had ratified it.  Ratification by the remaining two states came by 1790.

Please remember the following in your thoughts and prayers:
Anne Morrell’s mother is having a rough time.
The Ferguson family and the East family; both lost loved ones recently.
Bob Sloan’s grandmother recently passed.

What’s New with Sofia?
School started recently, which has been nice.  It’s a bit of a challenge because all her classes are in English, so she has to do some translation with her phone.  She experienced her first high school football game.  (She’s one of the cheerleaders.)  She had a lot of fun cheering, even though she “didn’t know what was going on.”

Singing:
Kim brought out a new song for us today, “Canaltown Races,” sung to the tune of “Camptown Races.”  Canaltown Days is this weekend – Tickets!  Tickets!

Birthdays and Anniversaries:
Sophia Clement will be 4 years old on October 1st.  (She won’t be here then, so we sing today.)
Nancy and Bill Schrader’s 41st wedding anniversary is Sunday (9/20).

Fines, Happy Bucks and Confessions:
• Kim and Mark offered happy bucks for Sophia’s birthday.
• Bob Sloan had a couple happy bucks – one for the nice win by the Bills on Sunday, and another for his son Rory, who passed his hunter safety course this past weekend.
• Tom Breen matched Bob’s buck for the Bills.  Also, while putting together the Crier for last week, he wished he had Bob Yost’s help; Bob could have photoshopped Dr. Oros into the photo since she couldn’t make the meeting.
• Eric announced that Amanda is pregnant again, with only one this time.
• Dianne was on TV yesterday morning for a segment about the Purple Painted Lady’s Barn Sale.
• Bob Yost had a happy buck for the Clements’ end of summer barn party.

Notes and Updates for the Club:

- Our club has decided to undertake a new literacy project in conjunction with the Pal-Mac Schools.  We will be providing copies of the children’s book, “Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure” to teachers in the primary school for second graders.  The book tells the story of a young man who starts an apple dumpling business.  With the guidance of a mysterious voice conveying the Four-Way Test, he has success with his venture and makes friends along the way.  The club will be purchasing 10 copies of the book and we are asking club members if they would like to sponsor additional copies, so that we can distribute more.  A signup sheet was passed at today’s meeting and will be around again at the next couple meetings, in case you are interested.  For your $10 donation, a copy of the book will be presented to the school with a label indicating it was donated by you.  As of today’s meeting, 25 people have signed up to sponsor the books.  Thank you!

- Rotary Leadership Institute is accepting reservations for the upcoming session.  Again this year, the session will be at the Canandaigua Inn on the Lake on Saturday, November 7th, from 7:30am – 3:30pm.  Last year Mark Clement and Tom Breen attended and report that it was interesting and informative.  Leadership courses I, II, and III are being offered, as well as the graduate course.  RLI has announced that the curriculum for the graduate course will change each year, so if you’ve attended RLI Graduate before, you might go again this year for a new experience.  Registration is open until November 2nd and can be accessed through the District website.  (Click here.)

Marty was the winner of this week’s 50/50 drawing, collecting $11, which he turned over to Sofia.
