Rotarian Pat VerPlank  gave us a little history of our club.  The club started in 1950  as the Palmyra Rotary Club and Rotarian Gene Bassage served as Secretary.   Back then if Rotarians missed 10 meetings per year and did not make them up they were let go from the club!  The club became Pal-Mac in the late 1970s.  Pat became the first female Rotarian in District 7120 when she joined in 1978.  She also became the first female President of the club.
Pat became the District 7120 chair for the Group Study Exchange Program.  This program is unfortunately no longer available due to costs related to the program.  It involved non-Rotarians from all over the world coming to the US to learn about professional fields as well as learning about the realities of life here.  Pat’s first program involved a group from South Africa.  Participants would usually stay with 2 or 3 different families within the district. Just like the present Friendship Exchange Program, friendships for life are established.
