Rotarian Bob Ike provided this week’s program – a very enlightening and informative presentation about the Pal-Mac Middle School’s Lighthouse Leadership program for students in Sixth through Eighth grade. Students Reagan Diehl, Avery Fedor and Tatum Smyth each did an excellent job of describing the goals of this extracurricular program. They were joined for our meeting by Middle School Principal Darcy Smith and sixth grade teacher Jamie Hageney.
Also known as "The Leader in Me", this program is based on the principles found in author Stephen Covey’s work, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The Leader in Me. This process guides students in developing their full potential by teaching skills such as critical thinking, goal setting, listening and speaking, self-directed learning, presentation skills and the ability to work in groups. Although it is an extracurricular activity, the program is aligned to many state and national academic standards, and its values carry over into the classroom every day.
