Today is “Wear Something Gaudy Day.”  It’s a chance to really stick out from the crowd.  The word gaudy refers to something bright, gay, cheap, showy, outlandish, or otherwise not in good taste.  Have a little fun with today.  For those that forgo fashion and style, look for something that is really wild and wacky.  You’ll stick out like a sore thumb.

Please remember the following in your thoughts and prayers:
Anne Morrell’s mother passed away.
Doug Wilson passed away.

Pictured with President Mark are the students joining us today.  They are (l-r) Sofia, Elayne Sheffer and Ali Abrams.  Elayne is active in Interact and SADD and works part-time.  She’d like to be a veterinarian.  Ali is active in softball and cross country and is also the Wayne County Fair Queen for 2015.

What’s New with Sofia?  So, this week was a routine, normal week – with no injuries!  She enjoyed the long weekend.  They went to Powers Market which was fun.  They also went to a haunted house, which was “so fun.”  She is looking forward to the Bills game on Sunday.

Birthdays and Anniversaries:
Dianne’s birthday is Friday (10/16).
Sofia’s grandmother’s birthday is Thursday (10/15).

Fines, Happy Bucks and Confessions:
• Gene and Shirley offered happy bucks in honor of a grandson who just graduated from the Law Enforcement academy at Finger Lakes.  He is now working for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Dep’t.  He was 1st in his class academically and physically; he was 2nd in marksmanship.
• Mark had a fink fine for Dave Read’s son Peter.  Peter was featured in the New York Times, in an article about his advocacy for victims’ rights and better gun control.  The article appeared in the wake of the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.  Peter’s daughter Mary was murdered in the mass shooting at Virginia Tech in 2007.  The article is available online; click here if you’d like to read it (or read it again).
• Jenn learned that she will be welcoming a daughter at the end of February.
• Leslie shared Julianna’s announcement that she is now officially a full-time cast member at Walt Disney World.  No word on whether Rotary discounts will be available.
• Maurina attended a family reunion over the weekend for the Schmidt family.  She also went to visit her daughter and family as well.  She also has “graduated” from Xerox Corporation as of last Monday and is looking forward to enjoying more free time.
• Mark fined all members who were not wearing a Rotary pin.

- Mark announced a new project for the club.  We will be collecting used prescription bottles.  Bring your empty prescription bottles to any club meeting.  The bottles are collected, sterilized, and sent off to be used in developing countries.

Congratulations to Dave Read, who won $13 in the 50/50 drawing this week.
