Meeting today at Parkwood Heights was convenient since our guest speaker, Melody Johnson, is their Leasing and Marketing Director.  She spoke to us about some of Parkwood’s offerings.  Our membership is very familiar with the Fireside Dining Room, which accommodates many of their residents for meals, in addition to hosting catered events such as our meetings and Christmas party.  All resident meals start with a homemade soup and 2 choices of entrees.
As you enter Parkwood’s property, you pass by the patio homes.  These are owned by their residents and constructed to their specifications.  Next along the drive are the townhouses, known as the Villas at Parkwood.  These independent living townhouses are leased and come with many amenities, including grocery/pharmacy delivery and meal discounts.
In the main building are the apartments, which range from studio to two-bedroom units.  There are 95 apartments in the main building.  Apartment rent includes daily breakfast, choice of lunch or dinner, weekly housekeeping, activities and outings, medical transportation, utilities, grocery/pharmacy delivery, access to the fitness center, and in-house lab services.
The grounds cover 122 acres, which includes a health and wellness center.  Behind the tree line visible from the dining room, there is a footpath which runs by the stream.  There is also a stocked fishing pond (catch and release).
Parkwood Heights offers a sort of assisted living program, called the enriched program.   This program includes case management; 24-hour emergency response; weekly laundry service; cueing and reminders for personal hygiene; assistance with bathing, dressing, and grooming; and more.  They do require that the resident be ambulatory and able to transfer on their own.  Because the facility is not locked or gated, residents with memory/dementia issues may be referred elsewhere.
An important item that Melody wanted to share with us, and asked us to spread the word about, is VA benefits.  Many older persons are unaware of the benefits available to them as a result of their veteran status.  To that end, Parkwood Heights will be presenting a program about Veteran’s Benefits at their facility on Monday, November 10th at 9am.  This presentation is free and open to all.  Due to seating limitations, reservations are requested.
