Rotary Announcements:

Past President Mark Clement ably filled in to run this week's meeting in the absence of wife, Kim, due to a “bad cold”.  He reminded members of two important calendar changes in coming weeks. First, the monthly Club Assembly, normally held on the last Wednesday of each month at Parkwood Heights, will be held on Wednesday, January 18, at the American Legion in Palmyra, because of the upcoming Murder Mystery dinner. (There will be NO MEETING on January 25.) Second, our guest speaker on February first will be current District Governor Tom Rogers.

Don't forget the Club's seventh annual Murder Mystery Dinner will be held on Saturday evening, January 28th, at the VFW in Palmyra. Tickets are $30 each or a table of eight for $250. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Camp Onseyawa. A number of tickets remain, so please “spread the word” to friends and co-workers who might wish to attend.

The annual Rotary Foundation Dessert Gala will be held on Wednesday evening, February 15th, at Parkwood Heights, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $5.00 per Rotarian and guests are free. Contact President Kim for signups and dessert items to be auctioned. All proceeds go to the Rotary Foundation.

The 18th annual Wayne County Spelling Bee will be held on Saturday morning, February 25, at the Wayne Central School in Ontario. If you are interested in participating on a team, contact Kim Clement, Maurina Schmidt, or Pam Dean. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.

Cindy Surline has announced that our Club's bell ringing efforts to aid the Salvation Army raised $1,741.00 over the holiday season.

This year's annual Rotary District Training Assembly will be held on Saturday morning, April 8, at Newark High School. This is a great learning opportunity for new Rotarians and prospective Club officers to learn more about our organization.

Program:

This week, our very own Foreign Exchange Student – Julia Lianne Bos from Belgium – shared with members some sights and insights into her country. With the aid of a colorful slide program, Julia offered facts and figures about Belgium's landscape and geography, and told us about some of her country's famous foods – chocolates, beer and french fries!

She also introduced us, through photos, to her family – mom, dad, and 16 year-old brother Leon. The family enjoys traveling together and have visited most countries in Europe, as well as Egypt, Australia and Thailand. Among her favorite activities are skiing in Austria and swimming.

Although she comes to us from her home in Belgium, Julia was born in Holland, near Amsterdam, and shared several scenes of that locale, as well.

Thank you, Julia, for your thoroughly entertaining program.

50/50 -- $8.00, won by Dick Kirchhoff, and donated to the Salvation Army fund.
